Why is Estonia positioning itself to become a leader in AI?
Estonia’s AI journey did not begin with ChatGPT.
It began decades ago with Tiger Leap, digital education, digital identity, interoperable public services and a long-term commitment to building a digital society.
Today, Estonia is taking the next step: AI Leap and Eesti.ai.
But what makes this interesting is not simply the technology.
It is the foundation behind it.
In my new article, I look at the journey from Tiger Leap → Digital Estonia → AI Leap → Eesti.ai, and explore what other European education systems can learn from Estonia’s approach to AI, digital competence, education and public-sector transformation.
The key question is:
Are countries really preparing for the AI era — or are they simply adopting AI tools?
I believe Estonia offers a very interesting answer.
