Course Overview

This course explores how democratic education can be successfully implemented within mainstream public schools. Participants will discover practical approaches to fostering student participation, shared decision-making, restorative practices, and inclusive school cultures while working within national education systems. Through interactive workshops, collaborative learning, and real-life examples, participants will gain the knowledge and confidence to create more democratic, participatory, and learner-centred educational environments.

Course Goals
Explore the principles and values of democratic education in contemporary schools.
Examine international examples of democratic and participatory educational practices.
Develop practical strategies for increasing student voice and participation.
Strengthen inclusive school cultures through democratic approaches.
Learn how restorative practices can improve relationships and school climate.
Design practical action plans for implementing democratic education within participants' own schools.
Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of democratic education principles and their application within public school systems. They will be able to promote meaningful student participation, implement restorative approaches to conflict resolution, strengthen inclusive learning environments, and develop practical strategies that encourage collaboration, shared responsibility, and active citizenship throughout school life.
